The exhibition goes on for a about a week but please come to check out the great work from all the different pathways. The uni is right by the island in Elephant & Castle- if you come out of the Shopping Centre Tube Station it’s opposite- you can’t miss it.

New logo design for ‘Funktrap’.

I was after a tattoo/gothic feel and decided to hand draw the type and finish it as a vector.

Here is my original idea in a similar format but I decided on several changes (as above) to increase legibility. Found it difficult to get the balance and structure consistent, flowing and decorative without losing the legibility of the letters themselves; one of the many difficulties I find with hand drawn type.

Haute is the alias of Patrick Johnson, a Leeds Graphic Design student from Birmingham. He often creates photographic scenarios that explore personal interests ranging from forests and fiction to Turkish traditions. In the first issue of ‘Cache’; a printed blog Patrick has in the works to house anything he’s working on or interested in, including writing and hopefully featuring other artists and designers in the future.

“I’m finding myself stuck between titles at the moment – Graphic Designer because essentially I love working with type, I want to communicate and anything I do will almost always end up in a printed form of some kind, but on the other hand I’m also a stylist and illustrator, I suppose because of the really personal nature of my work, style as well as subject.

I’m working on a number of final year University projects at the moment, including a large format book documenting the history of our new building as well as Cache. I work a lot with my friend Andy Callahan (www.andycallahan.co.uk) and we have a sort of collaborative-portfolio/working-partnership called Mount Milk  (www.mountmilk.co.uk) which we’re hoping to launch properly in the New Year. I’m also hoping to do some work with a small Record Label in California in the near future but that’ll only happen when it happens!

Yesterday we gathered our first stage of Research for the first of a series collaborative projects.

This first one with BeyondPAR entitled ‘Togetherness’ is essentially to get together, lock heads, share ideas and see what happens.

After a couple of meetings we’ve decided to look more into Kaleidoscopes and the abstract shapes and patterns they create.

We asked people to select any number of coloured shapes they feel drawn to, associate a feel with, an emotional attachment or that may represent them in one way or another.

We hope to take each individual case and then ‘splice’ them and experiment by taking different people and mix them together.

With our homemade Kaleidoscope we’ll then begin to record the outcome… and eventually create digital and mixed-media visuals from what we find.

It was cool to see some of the UAL Breakers rockin out today infront of the logo I designed earlier this summer.

The UAL Breakdance Society are running lessons and jam sessions for popping, locking and breaking throught the year.

A 40″ x 8″ scroll that depicts the ‘Lord of the Underworld’ or ‘God of Death’ in Aztec culture. The 9 levels of the underworld are depicted within the rib-cage of the seated skeleton figure.

I was inspired by the story behind the sandstone sculpture of ‘Mictlantecuhtli‘ found in The British Museum and the recent Moctezuma: Aztec Ruler exhibition.

I wanted to have an OOPArt feel like it could have been ripped from an old Codex.

New title-header illustration for the new ‘149 scam‘ blog; ‘Reviews and Comment for a Post-Dando World’.

Whilst still in construction the site is already growing with entertaining and thought-provoking commentary on a variety of topics and issues from advertising failures, scams/rip-offs and politics to restaurant reviews and music.

The feel for the illustration came from the idea of picking apart the city, deconstructing and reconstructing it’s physical face to uncover and reveal the ‘truth’ that lies beneath. By doing this we can encourage debate from what is discovered.

The two giant hands represent both the scammers and the reader as we shape our city (representative of London) by exploring and exposing issues that affect us the most. Like pieces in a giant chess game.
